2026 Exhibition Series

Awareness • Escape • Integration

In 2026, Art Talk presents a three-part exhibition series exploring how we emotionally navigate life in today’s world — from awareness, to escape, to integration. Rooted in the intersection of mental health and creative expression, this year’s exhibitions invite artists and viewers to reflect on what it means to live fully and honestly in complex times. Each show centers emotional experience over opinion, offering space for curiosity, vulnerability, and connection. Together, the series follows a natural human arc: In the spring, we ask how we are processing the world around us. In the summer, we examine the ways we cope and momentarily step away. In the fall, we return inward — grounding, integrating, and coming home to ourselves. All Art Talk exhibitions are non-juried and non-competitive. They are thoughtfully curated around themes that explore mental health, personal growth, and the world we’re living in. Our goal is not to provoke debate, but to foster reflection and meaningful dialogue through art.

What’s Going On?

Reception: April 25
Theme: Awareness & Processing

Let’s be honest — things feel overwhelming right now.

The world moves fast. The headlines don’t stop. Life feels loud, uncertain, confusing, and sometimes hopeful all at once.

What’s Going On? invites artists to reflect on how they are emotionally and creatively living in today’s world — with everything happening.

This exhibition centers real human experience over opinion. We are interested in honesty, curiosity, resilience, and how artists are making sense of “right now.”

Consider:
  • How are you coping with today’s world?
  • What feels heavy, hopeful, or confusing?
  • What questions are you holding?
  • What keeps you grounded?
  • How do you process uncertainty?
Important Dates:
  • Submission Deadline: March 22, 2026
  • Notifications: By March 29, 2026
  • Drop-Off: April 4 | 12–3 PM
  • Pick-Up: June 20–21 | 12–3 PM

Let’s Pretend

Reception: July 18th
Theme: Escape, Summer & Seasonal Rhythm

Summer — especially in a place like Newport — offers permission to relax, indulge, and imagine that everything is fine, even when life beneath the surface remains complicated.

Let’s Pretend explores the ways we use beauty, leisure, and seasonal rhythm to momentarily step away from reality. Set in the context of Newport’s summer culture, this exhibit invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and savor the world around us — sandy beaches, sailboats on the water, salty air, glowing sunsets, and oysters at a favorite local spot.

This exhibition celebrates both the relief and the complexity of escapism, honoring the ways summer gives us space to rest, reconnect, and feel alive.

Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme through their own lived experiences and personal relationship to Newport summer.

Consider:
  • What do you escape into?
  • What does “everything is fine” look like to you?
  • What does “summer in Newport” feel like?
  • Where do you find joy, ease, and inspiration?
  • How does time by the water, in nature, or in community shape your creativity?
Important Dates:
  • Submission Deadline: June 14, 2026
  • Notifications: By June 21, 2026
  • Drop-Off: June 27–28 | 12–3 PM
  • Pick-Up: September 18–19 | 12–3 PM

Coming Home

Reception: October 3rd

After awareness and escape, what does it mean to return to yourself?

Coming Home explores resilience, restoration, and the process of learning how to hold life’s complexities with steadiness and self-compassion.

This exhibition focuses on grounding, growth, and finding safety — internally and externally.

Artists are invited to reflect on healing in all its forms and what “home” means beyond a physical place.

Consider:
  • What helps you feel rooted and steady?
  • What does “home” mean to you?
  • How have you grown through a challenge?
  • What does healing look like in your life?
  • Where do you find peace, strength, and belonging?
