Face the Wave

A visual representation of the waves we must face.

Art Talk Gallery invites artists to submit work for Face the Wave, a group exhibition inspired by the metaphor of waves as a reflection of anxiety, fear, and emotional overwhelm. As we step into warmer weather and coastal rhythms in Newport, this exhibition will explore the powerful moment of choosing to face what we fear rather than turning away.

When we see a large wave approaching—whether in the ocean or in life—our instinct is often to run. But just like in the sea, running only increases the risk of being pulled under. The only way through is to meet it head-on, to dive in, and emerge stronger on the other side. This show seeks to capture that moment: the stillness before the wave, the surge of courage, the surrender to movement, and the clarity after the crash.

We are looking for artwork that incorporates waves or nautical themes as a metaphor for emotional resilience. Whether literal or abstract, we invite you to interpret what it means to face the wave through your unique creative lens.

All or Nothing

A visual exploration of the extremes we cling to when the middle feels uncertain.

Art Talk Gallery is now accepting submissions for All or Nothing, a group exhibition exploring the human tendency to think in extremes—especially in moments of grief, sadness, uncertainty, or transition.

In a world that rarely offers clear answers, our minds often reach for clarity by categorizing things as all good or all bad, a complete success or a total failure, everything or nothing at all. This exhibition invites artists to visually express the ways we, both individually and collectively, fall into this pattern of rigid, either/or thinking—and the emotional, social, or cultural consequences that follow.

We are seeking bold, dualistic works of art that embody contrast—whether in content, form, color, or emotional tone. Think tension. Think extremes. Think about what gets left out when we can’t hold space for the in-between.

All or Nothing is an invitation to explore the illusion of absolutes, and what it costs us when we cling too tightly to them. If you're inspired by contrast, nuance, and the emotional push-and-pull of absolutism, we’d be honored to consider your work.
